Over the last year, the debate around cannabis in Australia has become a bigger topic. With legalisation in many U.S states, and federal legalisation only days away in Canada, people keep wondering, what the hell is going on with Australia.
One massive issue I've come across is the lack of strength with out news sites. So many newspapers and other publications that 'pride' themselves on bringing stories that matter to the people have fallen short.
This is what I mean... So many new sites have posted polls to their Facebook pages over the last 6 months and gotten massive amounts of people contributing to the votes. Every single one of these polls has shown that the public is in favour of legalising cannabis. Once the polls have ended... nothing. There has been a huge lack of follow up on such a strong topic, I'm not sure if it's laziness, or if the editors at these news sites have not bothered.
let's look at one of the biggest polls, which comes from the 7 News Brisbane Facebook page.
305,600 votes, over 251,000 votes in favour of legalising cannabis across Australia. That is a huge number of people, but once the poll ended, it kind of just fell to the back and wasn't heard from again.
I've posted screenshots from a bunch of other news polls that show the same things, Australia wants it legal
While doing some research for this blog today I even realised that a hand-full of the polls have completely disappeared. I'm not going out and yelling conspiracy, but I feel that it's completely lazy and upsetting that there is proof out there that Australian's want cannabis legalised. I understand why too. I'm not someone who partakes, but I am 100% in support of this natural plant.
Why do I support it?
1. The 'gateway' drug myth has been debunked multiple times over many decades, but politicians still peddle that line to scare people who are too lazy to find out information themselves.
2. It has been proven to help with anxiety, depression, PTSD, MS, Crohn's disease,
Alzheimer's, cancer, chronic pain, epilepsy, autism, adhd, HIV and so much more. There is no other 'drug' on Earth that can treat that many things.
3. It has been proven to be over 100 times less harmful than alcohol, and even more so than cigarettes.
4. Prohibition has failed and will always fail. You can't tell people what to do with their own bodies and minds. All drugs, natural or synthetic should be seen as a health issue, not a criminal one.
So why is something, that is FAR less harmful than things that are legal, that has hundreds of health benefits still illegal?
Too many people in Australia are educated on cannabis via misinformation, spread by people who think they know all about it. There is 50 years of research behind cannabis that proves it should be let free to the world.
If you want to know more, I've added a bunch of links below to peer-reviewed studies and other information on cannabis, I do hope you take the time to check them out.

I for one (once it's finally legalised in Australia) will be there on day one of legalisation buying some high CBD cannabis, to replace my horrible anxiety medication (which has some not very nice side effects).
